CHOOSING THE RIGHT KIT: done using 3 factors: 1) Displacement - stock vs big bore, 2) Exhaust - stock vs aftermarket, 3) Air box - Stock vs Modified (either "L" mod or "4 hole" mod. (Simply doing the snorkel yank mod is still considered a stock air box for mcp kit selection).
WHAT YOU GET IN THE CARB KIT:
The MCP 316 Stainless Needle,
1-2 Pilot Jets, 1-2 Main Jets,
Air Cut off vacuum port plug and cavity o ring to do the cut off mod with OE cover
Fuel Tap Mod (vacuum cap and screw to modify OE tap),
MCP sticker
Quick Setup Guide and Detailed Step By Step Installation Guide.
OPTIONAL ITEMS: (recommended)
MCP Air Cut Off Block Plate (Strongly advised)
MCP Brass Replacement Choke Nut (OE nut is plastic and prone to break)
MCP Thumb Mixture Screw (allows low speed mixture screw adjustment by hand)
****If you don't get the air cut off block plate you must modify the OEM cut off cover. To do so you will need 2 part epoxy or JB Weld and 400 grit wet dry sand paper to block the port and level the warped OEM cut off cap. If you don't have those on hand, get the cover, it will cost nearly the same and be easier and faster in the end.
WHAT MCP DOES:
MCP corrects the issues that plague the Kawasaki KLR650 fuel system by fixing the design flaws, eliminating unreliable pieces and completely remapping air/fuel delivery.
1) Backfiring and afterfiring are eliminated as long as the head pipe is NOT loose/leaking and as long as an appropriate muffler is fitted.
2) Surging while cruising and idling are eliminated
3) Dead spots in the throttle are eliminated
4) You get a drastic boost in torque (mid range and bottom end),
5) You get increased horsepower (will pull harder all the way to red line)
6) You get an incredible boost in throttle response - all throttle positions active and predictable.
7) You get instant power from idle on up & stronger/smoother idle.
8) MCP Preserves fuel economy (MCP 2.0 pushed fuel economy to near stock levels - higher in some cases)
9) Less vibration with MCP - due to no longer being on the edge of detonation from being overly lean.
10) MCP Stabilizes engine temperatures due to corrected mixtures
11) Much much easier to start your KLR with MCP 2.0
No Other Kit Does What MCP Does ! ! !
There will be some slight decel pop under 3k rpm due to removing the cut off valve system, you can't buy a replacement cut off diaphragm that doesn't leak so there is no other choice.
United States shoppers please note, the USA put duties and tariffs on all shipments entering the USA from Canada as of Aug 29th, 2025. These fees will be added on the check out screen. The GOOD news is, even with the extra cost, it's still the best money you'll ever spend on your bike. It's that good. The duty/tariff calculator is live and adapts automatically as things change.

Couldn’t be happier, finally runs as it always should have. Throttle response, power, starting, reliability are all improved significantly over stock setup.
Easy to follow installation instructions.
It has also stopped it from back firing under deceleration.
My wife and I are not performance riders and did not have drivability problems, but wanted to eliminate the vulnerability of an air cut off valve failing as well as add adjustable mixture screws that would be responsive so that riding at various altitudes could be easily accommodated on our two Gen 1 KLR's.
Grant was very responsive to my shipping questions and my kits passed through U.S. Customs fine.
It's a very nice kit - high quality parts in efficient protective packaging. The written instructions that come with the kit were clear and the instruction troubleshooting videos linked are excellent. I like that there are step-by-step instructions as well as a fast track section for those familiar with the carbs.
I do think I’m going to rotate the carbs enough to pull the bowls and do the overflow pipe mod next winter to reduce the chance of hydrolocking the engine if we forget to shut the fuel off.
works great and excellent support + instructions!
Basically didn’t want to do this upgrade but was talked into it and now I have a flying pig! Whole different bike! Can’t say enough about this upgrade, I purchased everything suggested. Best part is this guy Grant, he’s on FB for any help and advice for all aspects of your KLR with videos not just carb
Great to hear ! very glad you're happy
Curious who talked you into doing mcp? was it me or someone else?
just curious.
do you have 4 KLRs now or you've had 4 different ones?
